President's Message

Let's gain the power to live through
"Tokiwa's Practical Learning"

Develop “practical learning” to cultivate individuals who can solve problems independently.

At Tokiwa University, the concept of "practical learning"—central to our founding philosophy—refers to applied studies that contribute to our daily lives, local communities, and society. Because of this, it is often assumed to be a form of learning that is immediately useful. However, in today's world, where complexity and rapid change are the norm, new societal challenges continue to emerge, and what is learned at university may not always be directly applicable. In addition, unexpected events such as natural disasters, pandemics, and conflicts can drastically alter our everyday lives. In such situations, it is essential to develop the ability to anticipate the unknown, think independently, and take action to solve problems. Through "Tokiwa’s Practical Learning," we hope students will cultivate the strength needed to thrive in society.

At our university, we promote international exchange through partnerships with 20 universities across 13 countries and regions. Our aim is not only to help students gain new perspectives and values through interactions with international peers, but also to encourage them to experience the world firsthand through both long-term and short-term study abroad programs. Our goal is to nurture individuals who, with a global outlook, can contribute not only to their local communities and society but also to the world at large.
Broaden your perspective in a global environment and
contribute to your community, society, and the world.
In terms of regional collaboration, students engage in practical learning opportunities such as lectures by prominent business leaders and local government officials from Ibaraki Prefecture, joint product development with local companies, and even policy proposal activities for local governments. At our university, students grow alongside the community, and we hope each of them will make their irreplaceable student years both meaningful and enjoyable.
